Gentlemen and Ladies,

It appears BP is finally on the cusp of ending this bad dream.  I have been patrolling the Mississippi Sound from the MS/AL line, out to the barrier islands, 7 miles offshore, and west for about 20 miles for the past few weeks.  We have had some oil enter the Sound, for the most part it is an orangsih to tan mouuse that cleans up easily.  There has also some been some washed up on the beaches, mostly on the barrier islands.  It is being cleaned and picked up as it is being found.  We have rescued an average of 3~5 "distressed" birds per week but still have lots of Pelicans and gulls and dolphins and the fish appear about normal.  We have not had any fish kills. The following link should show how the Loop Current has kept the oil in the northern Gulf and kept it off the west coast of Florida and beyond.

Hope ya'll are having a great summer.

No more new oil ... just some residual cleanup.  The following link is from NOAA.

We had a few strings and patches of oil enter the Sound and some made it to the shore.  All appears to have been cleaned and picked up with some residual stuff occasionally showing up.  No worse than a busy fuel dock at any marina on any coast.  How long will the residual stuff remain?  Who knows today.  Booms are being pulled and more and more boats are going out now.  Lets hope and pray the lessons learned will not be forgotten.
