Captain: TraderClass 1, Double Male
Crew: Troutheart
Boat Name: Whisper
Boat Description: Bell Northwoods 18"-6" Kevlar 46lbs., with full canvas cover, using homemade reefable mizzen sail on a mast and homemade mainsail built with tent poles similarly shaped to a Pacific Action sail.
Fort Desoto3/7/2009With what we learned in EC2008, our main focus this year is to get rid of excess weight, including about 40 lbs. around my waist and half the food we took last time. The mizzen will be reefable, and the mainsail will be lower and wider and will be attached differently. The solar panel is waterproof this time, for the battery that runs the bilge pump and navigation light. An extra GPS, another carbon fiber paddle, a SPOT, an improved bouyancy system in case we get swamped are on our shopping list.

3/8/2009 3:30:00 AMNo wind for our sails. Broke mizzen mast on low bridge. Current mostly against us. Slow, tough paddle. Gordon Pass tomorrow? Race Manager's note: time adjusted from 2:30 to 3:30 because of daylight savings (there is no 2:30 in the Spring Forward switch).
