Tracking, Tracking, Tracking!!!

During EC2026 we had lots of tracking issues. Tracking mode only, no use of OK or Custom messages at checkpoints. Using OK too far away from the checkpoints. Not turning on their tracking device while on the water. Improper setup when using Garmin so that OK, Custom, and Help messages cannot be ...

Re: Paddle length on Sea Wind?

I had a Dreamcatcher that has the same hull as a Sea Wind. My single blade paddle was 50 inches long and worked well. I also used a double blade paddle sometimes, but I don't have the length for that.

Reef Early and Reef Often

There is a great article in Small Craft Advisor. Every WaterTriber should read this:

Good News NC 2026 Is On

OK, we are a few boats short of my goal, but we are Good To Go! Both events are on. I have opened invoicing so after you have setup your tracking and PLB, you can log in and go to the home page. There you will see a button, View My Invoice. Click on that and confirm your entry. I will keep ...

EC2027 AND UM2027 Shifted Out One Week

I was just informed by Fort DeSoto Park that we cannot have our event on 3/6/2027. We have to shift it out one week. Registration will be on 3/12/2027 and launch will be on 3/13/2027.

Changes Coming to Boat Classes

I think we have too many boat classes. I am discussing this with a group of WaterTribe Elders. No decision has been made yet, but I plan to decide one way or another before the NC Events. Here is a rough idea of the plan: Class 1 - Expedition size sea kayak or canoe with or without a sail. Includes ...

We Need Better Tracking Compliance

We had several problems leading up to and during the EC2026 and UM2026. I hope we can do better in the upcoming NC Events and all events going forward. First, make sure your tracking device is able to send messages that translate to our OK, Custom, and Help messages. You need to send each one and ...

Yea, though I paddle through . . .

Yea, though I paddle through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;
thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
And I have finished the BBC2026.

Re: NC Events Making Progress, BUT

Many thanks to TangoWhiskey for the heads up regarding the schedule pages on the web site for BBC2026 and NCC2026. There was some date confusion which has been fixed. The BBC2026 starts on June 6 with registration, inspection, and Captains meeting on June 5. The NCC2026 starts on June 9 with ...

NC Events Making Progress, BUT

We are getting there. We just need a few more adventurers to signup and commit! The NCC was my introduction to adventure racing in small boats, and it is a perfect event if you are thinking about the Everglades Challenge. If you have already done the EC and/or the NCC, then jump into the BBC! It has ...
