Savannah Question

Post by SlothZoomies »

My wife and I are thinking of spending March in Savannah and want to do some paddling. As Minnesotans we have spent most of our time in canoes. We are experienced paddlers and have been canoeing together since the early 80s. We have done the Mississippi 150 a couple of times, many trips to the BWCA, and just lots of time together in a canoe on lakes and rivers. We have done some coastal paddling in rental Kayaks but both just prefer a canoe.

Looking at maps and poking around the opportunities for paddling seem great. However, almost every is in a kayak. Assuming we don't go offshore is there any reason not to just bring down our MN II?

Thx

You certainly can paddle a canoe in the lakes and rivers. It can get a bit more exciting if you paddle a canoe in salt water. You should try to stay in fairly protected regions. Also, consider getting a cockpit cover as described in Cliff Jacobson's book, Expedition Canoeing. This is also a requirement for any open deck canoe in a WaterTribe Challenge.
