Changes Coming to Boat Classes

Post by Chief »

I think we have too many boat classes. I am discussing this with a group of WaterTribe Elders. No decision has been made yet, but I plan to decide one way or another before the NC Events.

Here is a rough idea of the plan:
  • Class 1 - Expedition size sea kayak or canoe with or without a sail. Includes rowing hulls. If using a sail, area <= 1 square meter.
  • Class 2 - Racing sea kayak or canoe no sail allowed. Includes single outrigger canoes and rowing hulls. Determined by length to beam ratio.
  • Class 3 - An expedition size sea kayak or canoe with a sail and amas that can be stored inside and/or outside in a seaworthy manner.
  • Class 4 - Monohull sailboat. Less than 600 pounds and <= 22 feet.
  • Class 5 Multihull Sailboat. Less than 600 pounds and <= 22 feet.
  • Class 6 Solar Power Electric. Less than 600 pounds and <+ 22 feet.
  • Class 7 SUP.
Once a final decision has been made, I will write a new Boat Class document with more details.
