Paddle length on Sea Wind?

Post by Alm »

Not a racer, have a Canadian version of Sea Wind - called Sea 1. 28" wide, V-hull, different shape cockpit. I happened to have an old 60" canoe paddle so I'm using it for now. Too long. I found that want to keep my top hand 5-6" below the end. Looks like I need 54" paddle? I am 5'4", foam seat is ~2" thick, placed at the bottom, there are no rails to elevate the seat, I'm fine with this seat.

I had a Dreamcatcher that has the same hull as a Sea Wind. My single blade paddle was 50 inches long and worked well. I also used a double blade paddle sometimes, but I don't have the length for that.

Thank you Chief. You might be right about 50". Could work if immersed as a canoe paddle should - more vertically.
