From MicroTom:
"Made it to Check Point 1 in Placida. Did 60 miles in 25 hours. Unfortunately I have to drop out due to a health issue. Nothing too serious but can’t sit for long periods of time and that’s all I would be doing for 16-20 hours a day. Until next time.

Update from Calypso and OneEyedJake:
"Just posting a quick update for those following our progress during the Everglades Challenge. We flew down to the first checkpoint in just 14 hours but had to end our race there. Unfortunately, I ended up with a painful shoulder injury just six miles in to the race after a large powerboat nearly swamped us. I took a bunch of Advil in the hopes of being able to work through the injury but the pain kept getting worse and I started getting sick to my stomach from taking too much Advil. Andy also had a medical issue down at the checkpoint that made me nervous about trying to continue. I also did not want to risk permanently injuring my shoulder by trying to push for another 200+ miles. We are both okay but my shoulder is going to need a while to heal. I want to give a huge thanks to Brett, Gina, and the other checkpoint captains at CP1. They took great care of us when we were really in a tough spot. Also, thanks to our shore contact, Keith Fowler, for picking us up early. We are heading to Flamingo for a few days as Keith is one of the checkpoint captains there. Afterward, we will head to Key Largo to cheer on the finishers. We are bummed to have to drop after training for so long and putting so much time and effort into preparing for this event. The boat performed amazingly and Andy and I worked well together as a team. We even had semi decent weather conditions for paddling. Ultimately though, our health and safety are what is most important and while I’m heartbroken about a DNF, we will have plenty of other adventures ahead of us."
