I think we have too many boat classes. I am discussing this with a group of WaterTribe Elders. No decision has been made yet, but I plan to decide one way or another before the 2027 FL events.

Here is a rough idea of the plan:

• Class 1 - Expedition size sea kayak or canoe with or without a sail. Includes rowing hulls. If using a sail, area <= 1 square meter.

• Class 2 - Racing sea kayak or canoe no sail allowed. Includes single outrigger canoes and rowing hulls. Determined by length to beam ratio.

• Class 3 - An expedition size sea kayak or canoe with a sail and amas that can be stored inside and/or outside in a seaworthy manner.

• Class 4 - Monohull sailboat. <= 600 pounds and <= 22 feet.

• Class 5 Multihull Sailboat. <= 600 pounds and <= 22 feet.

• Class 6 Solar Power Electric. <= 600 pounds and <= 22 feet.

• Class 7 SUP.

NEW: Note that boats over 600 pounds and longer that 22 feet that have launched off the EC or NC beaches in previous events will be Grandfathered in.

Once a final decision has been made, I will write a new Boat Class document with more details.

Sea Pearls, Core Sound 20's, Highlander's are all Mainstay's in class 4 Monohull and weigh more than 600lbs.

Good Point. Any boat that has previously launched off the beach is Grand Fathered in. This applies to any captain and crew using any of these boats.

However, the 600 pound rule does apply to all boats for using the beach cart for transport to the launch beach.

Hey Chief, One clarification request to consider before rules go final... are you thinking that only individual boats previously launched in EC/NCC are grandfathered, or would grandfathering apply to the entire class of say Core Sound 20's? I'm thinking of folks like myself who are considering building one, or folks who might be in build process right now.
