The Tridarka Raider
A Trimaran for Coastal Vagabonds
So what's it going to cost to build this boat?
The answer depends on you. It can be very low cost or very high depending
on the building methods and materials you use. Also, a large chunk of your
budget will be spent on renting a shop unless you are fortunate enough to already
have a shop. When renting, time is money so it pays to buy assembled components
whenever you can.
The following is based on representative quantities and prices as of April 2007.
Note that these are rough estimates and not a promised building cost. I do
not include lots of stuff like mixing cups, stir sticks, brushes, paper towels,
waxed paper, and tools. Rent for a shop is also not included here.
SHOP SETUP
No matter what, you need to setup shop. You will need a large table for scarfing,
cutting out the panels, and hull assembly. Also, a bunch of tools, saw horses,
etc.

A bunch of other stuff can be added to this list to make the job easier or more
fun: grinder, planer, buy the table saw, more saw horses, make some really good
saw horses, drill press, band saw, etc. But all that is up to you and not
essential to a good building experience.

Of course these components can be had for much less cost. Build your own rudder
and leeboard. Use an aluminum mast or build your own. The main and reacher
can be obtained as a kit for less than half. But if you want the best and
want to save a lot of time, buying these components is the way to go.
|
Round it up to $12,000.
Compare this cost with a Corsair 24 or 750 at about $48,000 (not including a motor
and a bunch of other stuff you won't need with a Tridarka Raider).
One fourth the cost and four times the fun.
